Default Dye Extractor

The dye extractor is basically a new item that works similar to salvage kits, but it gives you dye instead of materials. You'd use it on armor that was already dyed and you would recieve a vial of dye based on what color that the armor was dyed.

If the armor was only green you'd just green dye back.

If the armor was green+blue, you'd have a 50/50 chance of either.

If the armor was green+green+blue, you'd have a 66% chance of green.

Any commments?

No.

Dye is a pure gold sink; it grants you absolutely zero benefit in terms of gameplay. If you don't want to fork over the cash to dye and re-dye your armor, then just leave it alone.

Maybe something that can tell you what combination of dyes was used on the armor in case you forgot (or acquired it from someone else).

But never something to recover the dye. If you want to save your gold, just stick with the gray.

i like the idea but removing the dye will have to destroy the armor.

good idea and all, but unless it has the chance to destroy the armor piece then there would be no need to buy additional dyes.

I'm very 50/50 on this one. Although I'd love to have this as an addition, I see why it never would be, and for me getting dye is half the fun. It would make dyes like black and white far less rare if you can simply re-salvage them, and so make it less exciting if you have one drop.

I'm going to go with tentatively /notsigned.

I agree with bilateralrope though. I'd like to have it written on my armour somewhere what dye combination I've used, because I always forget.

How are you suppose to extract dye anyway? If you can extract dye on your clothes (or painting on your house) and recover it back as liquid, then I will /signed

Hmm, sure it would be nice to reclaim a black dye, but seriously, dye is a material penetrating (absorbed) substance, I really can't see how it could be extracted. Think of spilling your Coke on your clothes, then ringing it out into a glass. You never get 100% back, and it is tainted from the fibre and dirt on the clothes. So getting a perfect vial of dye back wouldn't really make sense. Anyhoo, yes it would be nice, but can't really see how it would happen logically...

yeah, you can't do this in real life without damaging the armour not to mention getting all the grease and dirt.

/notsigned.

Removing dye makes no sense, if it's dried it will stay on forever. Just like we are used to in rl.

obviously it would have to have a chance at breaking the armor. Also, why does it have to make sense its a game; using a salvage kit on necro tattoo armor and getting parchment doesnt make sense but it still happens.

this idea, I have to say the 'you can't remove paint/dye in real life' arguement is dumb. In real life, show me who can summon a Flesh Golem, cast a Meteor Shower, or shadow step, etc. Real world physics don't getused in fantasy games/art/books 100% of the time.

Yet real world physical laws still are in use for the largest part in fantasy: fire burns and does not heal, jumping up eventually makes one come back down, blades sever and don't glue parts together, ...
Approaching 0% of real world elements will make this virtual world incomprehendable.

ok I don't want this implemented, but i have some thoughts on what has been said

Come on people this is a fantasy game, so in real life you can't extract Dye purely or 100%

Like Magma Red said this is fantasy, the real world has little to do with it.

I'm pretty sure an elementalist could work up some kind of spell that would allow the extraction of Dye.

And Bazompora is way off the mark,

People can jump up and not fall down, maybe he hasn't heard of levitation spells,

Fire healing instead of damaging, I'm sure that many skills in this game can reverse damage and change it to healing, or negate it, Just look at the Dervish Avatar of Melandru, it negates all conditions,

How many of us rip weapons apart salvaging them get all the parts and mix them up again? I know i do it often.

The rules of a fantasy realm are based upon the authors mind, they often have all powerful Gods ruling them, that can bend reality to their every whim, when magic is an intergral part of a created world, our world has little to do with what is possible.

How about adding an extra option to salvage kits to salvage the dye if applicable?

The break chance would be the same as if salvaging components. Also, maybe monsters could also drop pre-dyed weapons for salvaging, but on rare skins only.
